E420 Bluetooth won't stay connected

I'm able to connect my bluetooth mouse and keyboard initially to my Thinkpad Edge E420, however, after just a few minutes for some reason the mouse and keyboard won't respond. I've checked with new batteries and I've tried it on other sources (I've used it perfectly fine on my tablet). Has anyone else had any problems like this? Or any possible solutions?

I suspect that this is more a BT technology problem than a hardware problem. I have experienced the same disconnection issue with my T61 and E420 using BT mice from Lenovo, Microsoft and Sony.  My daughter has it too with a much older 3000N100 laptop.  Most of the time I can get it back working by shaking the mouse; less often I have to re-discover the mouse. This never happens with the traditional wireless mouse on my desktop.  You hear this a lot from those that use BT to link their phones.
