E420 humming sound

Had this for about a week now, and it's been pretty quiet until today. There is now a low and steady hum that alternates pitch, kind of like a slow heart beat. Not really loud, but just annoying for a new machine. I've read some things here about fan noise, but this doesn't sound like a fan to me. Nothing in the disk drive, BTW. Maybe the hard drive?

hey buck06,

remove the harddrive and start your unit.

the unit will still boot up but will not go into the OS. can you still hear the noise ? if there is none, then it is something to fo with the harddrive.
