Edge E420 Whining Noise

Hello,

Just received my e420. When I have the laptop running on battery, there is a terrible whining/piercing noise coming from the bottom left corner.

It is really annoying and hard to focus. When I have the laptop plugged in, there is no whining/piercing noise.

I was doing some research and lenovo had some issues with the i5 processor. My laptop contains that i5 processor.

Any help?

The newer Sandy Bridge chips are supposed to be less prone to this issue.

I was going to try it. But I read somewhere that when you disable that CPU thingy, your battery life is drained big time.

I will be calling Lenovo to follow up

I'm in the same situation as you're. I also have an E420 with i5-2410m.

The noise is also coming from the bottom left corner.

As the KB pointed by Colonel O'Neil said, by disabling the CPU Power Management, the noise is gone.

Have you contacted Lenovo? How do they respond ?
