The E520 manuf line is out for months now. Replaced by new line E525/E530.
Manufacturing process is : all mother boards for a line are build at the same time for boxes AND for replacement according on an estimated failure rate.
They wouldn't build new MB for repair on an old line! They have not anymore the manuf process line!
So replacement is made on the old line MB base and by cannibalisation of old machines.

See that poor guy who already send twice his machine to the repair center.
The breakdown occurs within 3 to 6 months so replacement leads to the end of the Year Warranty period. That just easy like this.
Do you think that Lenovo will build new EEPROM and replace them on the MB ?
Too costy my friend Better change the line and see next.
The image of Lenovo is now : how would they manage such type of problem they did not include in their process ?
I mean from a customer point of view of courseSee that poor guy who already send twice his machine to the repair center.

i fell lucky i only bought 4 of these we were looking at 50 so really dodged a bullet with this low quality equipment the customer service is a joke so far ive had 2 out of the 4 die (this has been within 3 months) . 1 took 3 weeks to fix apparently most units are returned within 5 working days if you believe that you'll believe anything, the 2nd one ive had a complaint lodged with cmt_west@lenovo.com apparently ill hear from them in 24 - 48 hours its been 8 days so far and no response to my complaint. Does any one know who i can contact further up the food chain they obiously have a problem with these units and by rights they should be recalled. Ill never buy another ibm or lenovo product ever again as with proper manufacturers the customer is important id highly recommend hp / compaq any advice on getting my money back or loosing these amateurs customers would be appreciated

Count me in as having another E520 that is now dead. Delivered early Dec 2011 and wasn't really used until Jan 2012, so it lasted about 8 months. Lesson learned....staying away from Lenovo in the future.

and another one bites the dust.....mine is now dead
to the person asking about publicizing the problem - the answer is yes but not to the press.....the corporate owned media will give lenovo more than ample time to tap dance and disemble about the problem not being sigificant and under control when in fact it is not and they will not extend the warranty....
this laptop is the equivalent of windows 3.1 - a rickety bucket of horse manure which will blow up in your face without warning...i will never buy another one of these machines again.....

another two dead Edge 520 (1143-B6G) from my customers in Germany. Same problem ... From one day to the next they do not turn on ... totally dead.
It is frustrating because I told my customers to get these machines instead of low-quality-lowprice-models of other manufacturers ... The shining quality star, that lenovo once had, seems to decline ... I could not understand how Lenovo started to produce machines for the mass-consumer-market ... this destroys the high-quality-image that they have built up with the think-models. If a machine is named "THinkpad", it should have a certain qualitity. Otherwise I would have bought Lenovo-G-Notebooks ...

Just had our second machine go. What on earch are we meant to do? We can't just have machines sitting in user's hands that could die at any second.
Why is Lenovo not doing a full recall of these machines?!
