How does discrete graphics affect battery life?

Hello,

 

I actually have a couple of questions.  Will discrete graphics be an option in the future for the e420s laptop or not?  What discrete graphics options are available for the motherboard in the e420s?  Would I be able to just buy the discrete graphics card separately and install it myself?  I have read on the e420s specifications sheet (http://shop.lenovo.com/us/ww/pdf/e420s_datasheet.pdf) that a core i7 is available for it.  Why do I not see this option on the site when trying to purchase the laptop?  If I can and do install discrete graphics in the e420s, how will this affect the battery life (any example would be nice)?
