Hi
My E420s has a sim card slot on the back, but nothing really happens when I put in my sim card from my phone (with a data plan on it). I searched Google and also looked through the bundled Lenovo software but didnt find anything usefull.
Is there a chance that the slot is just a dummy, or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance and happy hollidays!

I believe you need a mini PCI Express broaband module installed for it to work.
From the Data Sheet
"WWaN (Optional) - Ericsson F5521gw Mobile Broadband Module HSPA+ OR Huawei EV-DO WWAN Minicard (EM660) – China Only"
Hope that helps ![]()

Correct me if im wrong, youre saying that I need to add a mini PCI express broadband module for the SIM card slot to work? Or I just need a license to activate it?
Where can I buy that? Is it available on Lenovo stores?
Thanks. ![]()

I also found this mini PCI broadband module:
Lenovo ThinkPad GOBI Mobile Broadband Option
will this be enough to enable the SIM card slot on E420s?

Hi last_spart and welcome to the Community,
Here's your Hardware Maintenance Manual . Page 71 shows where the card should be. You'll have to make sure you also have antennaes in there for it to work. You'll have to remove the keyboard to get access to the card. There's also a parts list for the compatible cards.
You can also go here and enter your serial number and it should bring up a list of everything installed in your machine.
