format laptopt

Hello to all, I have a thinkpad edge E420 1141-A24, with Windows 7 home OS.
Now I would like to change OS and use both a linux based system and another version of win 7. For this reason i cannot use lenovo recovery partition (I think).
Due to the fact that I haven't any CD with the drivers and preinstalled software of this laptop I would like to know if I can find everything online, and where.
I found this page:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT037710
Is there here all that is needed to restore original factory preloaded software and drivers for windows? (obviously whitout OS). Will they work with another version of win 7?

Thanks!!

Davide

Re: format laptopt

Hi theboss206,

First of all, it wouldn't be a bad idea to burn yourself a set of recovery discs, just in case something goes amiss down the road.

Second, check your versions of drivers in Device Manager against the versions offered on that driver page. Make sure you don't already have a later driver installed on your machine right now.

You could probably copy the drivers from their folders on your hard drive onto a usb flash drive and install them from that when you get your new version installed.

As long as the driver on the page says Windows 7, it will work with all versions.  Just make sure it's 32bit or 64bit.

Dave

Re: format laptopt

thanks Dave, I'll make a recovery disk of course.
I found a folder called: "SWTOOLS" in C: with a lot of drivers and software (also skype an windows live ????:smileysurprised:). Do you know if all the drivers and preinstalled software are in this folder?? in this  case I can copy just this one....

thanks!!

Re: format laptopt

Skype and windows live, huh?  That should be it.  Expand on it and open the drivers folder and open one of the drivers.

There should be an installer in there.  If so, you're in the right place.  Look around, but there shouldn't be anything else.

Re: format laptopt

I was surprised too!! I haven't windows live, but in this folder there is the setup file....
anyway, in the folder swtools there are all the .exe files for the drivers, so I'm in the right place.

thank you very much for your help
