Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

slpin,

Thanks for responding to my need!

I don't know how to use a sys dump to roll back to that ROM version...do you have any guide or instructions on that?

Also, someone offered a clean 0075_US Nandroid backup here so I'm going to try that one first to see how it goes.

Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

[ Edited ]

I managed to obtain a copy of Nandroid backup for a 32Gb 0089_US TPT.

After successfully restoring the backup to my US TPT, I proceeded to run the encryption of the tablet.

It went through the steps & finally, after entering the password, it still hung at the green-outlined  android icon!!

What is going on?

Is there some broken cryptographic hardware in the TPT that is responsible for the encryption?

I cannot for the life of me understand why I cannot restore full functionality to my TPT.

And bsnf has not responded to my PMs for almost 3 weeks now.

What's the deal?

Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

There is no broken cryptographic hardware on the ThinkPad tablet, it is just that you rooted it and broke the operating system's cryptographic framework. Do you really want official support for it from Lenovo now?

Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

sobrado,

So, you are saying that running the original ROM will get things back to original working order?
I sure hope you know what you are saying cos' I've already tried factory resetting my TPT several times & installing the original ROM but to no avail.
Next time, try asking before you jump to conclusion.

Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

konker,

My slate is able to encrypt a 32 GB class 10 SDHC card in less than one minute so, indeed, running the original -unmodified, UNROOTED- operating system helps a lot.

I can assure you that I know what I am saying. I do not need to say what my qualifications are, right?

Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

My TPT can still encrypt external SD cards without any problems.

Does that then still constitute a broken cryptographic framework?

Your point with the external SD card encryption being?

My issue is with the internal storage as you already know.

And which slate are you referring to?

Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

Of course, mine can encrypt internal storage too. The encryption process on this 64 GB slate lasts one hour. Indeed, not being able to encrypt storage means that you broke something after rooting the device. You have restored an operating system back up, but in no way it means you have the original operating system running on your tablet right now. Your best chance is sending the device for re-imaging, but this process will possibly not be covered by your warranty now.

Re: Cannot encrypt TPT after factory reset?!

Konker,

You are the only person reporting this issue. We have tried hard but have not been able to get in this scenario.

We are not trying to recreate this issue anymore and we cannot fix something that we cannot recreate.

For the record, this issue has been resolved with the latest OTA3.2. Now my TPT is running ICS with DE & SDE enabled.

I posted my solution in this post.

Consider this issue closed.
