Problem: System update (OTA package) is available; however, the tablet will not apply the update.
Symptom: After the user selects "Check for updates", no large dialog is displayed that says "Checking for new system updates". Instead the user sees a small "toast" message in the lower-center of the screen that simply says "Downloading...". This message is displayed for about 3 seconds and then disappears. Nothing else happens after this.
It seems no matter what happens, the system is always in this state and will NOT apply any OTA update packages.
Workaround: There are 2 known workarounds for this problem:
Workaround #1
1 - From the Home screen, go to "All Apps" and select the "Downloads" application.
2 - Delete any downloads named "update.zip", "update.xml", or "Checking for new system updates complete".
3 - Once the downloads are deleted, go back to Settings and "Check for updates" again. It should work as normal.
Workaround #2
1 - Boot the Tablet into "Recovery Mode"
- Make sure the tablet is completely powered off/shutdown.
- Now start to power the tablet back on:
- Hold the "Volume UP" key and the power button at the same time.
- When the Tablet vibrates, begin "tapping" the volume up button (press, release, press, release, etc)
- In about 1-2 seconds, you should see the message "Booting Recovery Console" on the tablet. You can stop pressing the vol up button.
2 - Once in the recovery menu, the volume UP and DOWN keys move the "selection" and the power button is like pressing ENTER.
- Press the volume down button once to navigate to "wipe cache partition"
- Press the power button to select that.
- Once that is done, press the power button to reboot the device.
3 - Once the tablet reboots, you can go back to Settings and "Check for updates" again. It should work as normal.

I think this is primarily targeted at users with encrypted tablets, the update does not apply properly or will apply properly but keeps prompting you to update afterwards.

Hey there!
I was one of those affected by the repeated prompt to update while it was already installed, having an encrypted tablet.
The "wipe cache partition" workaround helped for a while, but after checking for a new update i got the repeated messages again, so i tried the first tip and voila, there was still an upgrade.zip in my DOWNLOADS list --> deleted, let´s see
!
Thanks for the hint,
Ciao,

I am having the same problem. The error message goes by to fast to read, but it is saying something about a signature failure. I tried both potential solutions above. I have also tried to manually update the tablet but when I try that I am getting a failed to mount SD card error.

I did a check update in my TPT and it started downloading. After a few seconds in sown me the message:
"The process android.process.media has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
The download went to 33%.
After that I rebooted and tried again, and the same error showed up.
Now every time I reboot even if I do not make a check update it shows the message. And to make things worst I cannot use the following applications:
I tried the steps above and they did not work is thenere anything else I can do?
Except factory reset
