[REQ] Lenovo Backup App

Hi,

I would like to suggest to the Lenovo staff to add a backup solution to the upcoming ROM updates. Something like Titanium or Asus Backup to save all the installed Apps [b]and[/b] their data.

As you know Android uses an own sandbox for each app, what makes it impossible for an app to access the data of another w/o root access. Because it seems you locked this device down pretty hard, denying us root we now depend on you to provide us a possibility to save our precious data, in case we lose or damage this device, what should be one of the basic functionalities of a so called business device.

I'm writing this because I've found out that my device that returned two weeks ago from a microUSB repair is now affected with the loose Power-button problem. That means that I'll have to fiddle around again a few days to get this device exactly set up as I want to (not just system, but also many 3rd party app settings and I'll loose my pop3 mails that are no longer on the server) and I'm really not looking forward to this...

What this app should have:

  • Backup of all installed apps and data (settings, content, savegames)
  • reestablish Market links for 3rd party apps to receive updates after restoring
  • a selection which apps should be backed up / restored (I mean something like checkmarks)
  • backup to internal storage or SD-card
  • backup to an ftp / network location / Dropbox / whatever would also be great
  • automatic backup (time controlled / when charging / connected to the office WiFi)
  • set how many backup files should be kept to save storage
  • ask the user when automatically backing up to a ftp-server / online location if it should wait until there is a WiFi connection (not everyone has unlimited data)

It would be great if you could consider this or maybe forward it to your dev-department. I think many users would appreciate it to have the safety that their data is secure. This is one of the major annoyances of Android and I'm wondering why Google themselves haven't provided a solution. But as long as they don't do that, we have to depend on our manufacturers.

Re: [REQ] Lenovo Backup App

i too would like to see a lenovo supported back app

was very surprised to find out they do not have supported backup and full app manager that allows for installs/uninstalls of custom packages. very dissapointing for a "business tablet" .....

To all and to Lenovo officials,

Will there be an Update for being able to fully backup, or is it only possible with "unsupported" rooting?

Makes no sense to have a "business-"tablet or normal tablet without full-backup possibilities.

With kind regards
Splotz

[ Edited ]

I have taken this request forward. I have not make any progress as I got caught up with the email issue not making in OTA2 and wanted that out at a high priority. I will continue working on this request next week.

Please note that me taking the request forward does not mean that it will be done, however it gets the focus.

If you want to add ideas to the request now is the chance, I just took the 1st post.

Re: [REQ] Lenovo Backup App

Dear bsnf, In this case i summarize my requests (although they appeard around the forum already):

1. there was a topic about the pen having worse response in some areas of the screen. it would be good to know if this is a hardware or software issue, and if it is the latter, it should be addressed in some forthcoming OTA. if it is hardware then is it an issue with all the screens or the new ones shipping are good or what?

2. the pen only mode is already considered as far as i remember, but i repeat this too, and also:

3. ability to turn off the whole status bar

4. ability to turn on the app window icon in the middle of the status bar

Thanks

Re: [REQ] Lenovo Backup App

Thank you bsnf.
I would also like the ability to export and re-import the native format files of Notes Mobile. This would allow for their off-device backup, the continuation of work at a later date whilst knowing your previous work is secure, as well as collaboration with others for joint work.
Thank you,
Keith
