Re: Resolution HMDI->VGA 640x480 with Android4

This is insane!! HOW can they have such a LOW output in a HDMI port? Come on Lenovo! This must be fixed ASAP! no discussion!

Re: Resolution HMDI->VGA 640x480 with Android4

What about straight from HDMI port to the HD TV? Does it still output 720p? If yes, then the problem may be with ASUS HDMI-VGA adapter not being compatible with ICS. Have anyone checked on the ASUS user forum, if there is one? And does the adapter work with ASUS Transformer ICS tablet?

I doubt it's nativ hdmi resolution that lenovo fixed on HC but seems forgot to do that on ics.

TF and TF prime have great roms asus wouldn't fail on that.

Is this even something that Lenovo can fix due to HDCP which is trying to cutoff the transfer of all HD content to analog?  This may be the next step by google and the industry to limit the conversion.

Re: Resolution HMDI->VGA 640x480 with Android4

I can confirm that this happens only with the vga adapter attached. When I connect the TPT with a hdmi cable, I get the full screen resolution.
Something about the hdmi signal seems to have changed...

I would agree that something with the singal has changed but, is it something that can even be corrected by Lenovo.  It may well be that something changed from the inital release of Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich in the HDCP  specifications that require low value content signal.  If this is correct the current converter being used may not be able to pair adequately with the TPT for the desired resolution.

Since Lenovo (amoung other comptuer manufactures) have signed on to HDCP I am not sure there is much they can do about this other than let you go back to Honeycomb.

This is bit sketchy from my Google search but go to Settings/Developeer Options and turn off HDCP checking.

Re: Resolution HMDI->VGA 640x480 with Android4

The ASUS support replied (within 24 hours :smileysurprised:).

They say that there shouldn't be a problem with ICS and they aren't aware of such a problem for their tablets.

They suggested to reset the tablet :-(

@bsnf: Thanks a lot for looking into this problem.

Your picture shows a HDMI->VGA converter which converts the digital HDMI output to analog VGA. So your test shows nothing more than it is all OK with the digital HDMI output signal (converted to VGA).

We are however talking about adaptors, i.e. passive connectors, as for example the already mentioned ASUS mini HDMI to VGA adapter, which is a simple cable (there are others by other manufacturers). These adaptors worked as desired before we updated to ICS (output resolution was something like 720p; I don't remember the details). Now, with the same adaptors, we get 640x480: Unusable for teaching/lecturing.

Our project "Teaching with Tablets" is about to fail because of this. And no, we do not have the money to buy converters, change the beamer cables (VGA is poor, but still common in universities/schools) or buy new tablets. At least a downgrade possibility to 3.1 would be highly appreciated.
