Remove these from the critical systems folder and let users have the option to uninstall them.

You can put them in the lenovo app shop as free apps if we want to we can re-install.

I think these apps are buggy and better options exist in the android market.

You guys at Lenovo think they are the best apps on the planet.

Put it to the test and give customers the option to uninstall.

This stuff gives android a bad name with consumers.

Hopefully in years to  come Google will do something Great with Motorola and make a tablet with Lenovo build quality and have stock android.
Would also like to uninstall Flex t9 keyboard.

I'm going to second everything said here.  There's no point in making it impossible for users to remove these apps.  Anyone who likes them will leave them installed and will continue to use them, while those who don't have an interest in them should be given the option to uninstall them as they see fit.

Re: System update requests for ThinkPad Tablet

[ Edited ]

Please, please add these to the list:

Build: ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0024_0065_US

  1. GPS takes an incredibly long time to acquire satellites
Noticed this immediately when compared side-by-side with; my phone, car GPS  andAcer A500 Android tablet. My Acer tablet originally had this issue too, until it was resolved with an OTA update.

  2. Auto-Correct on standard Android Keyboard not functioning.
Auto-correct on my Acer A500 works perfectly on the standard Android keyboard, as noted here in the forums,  not so for the TPT.

  3. Cell Standby effect on battery life
Once again, this was also an issue on my Acer A500 tablet until it was resolved by an OTA update. I have read elsewhere that the cell standby label may be a misnomer, but the fact is with both the Acer and TPT side by side, battery life is much better on the Acer.

  4. Slowwwww Charging
Doubtful anything can be done about this via software, but with TPT Docks backordered EVERYWHERE this has become a major issue for me and others.

  5. Custom Lenovo App Changes
This is more of a cosmetic thing but I figured I'd throw it out there... I didn't care for most of the custom Lenovo Apps that came with the TPT, except for the Lenovo Launch Zone. The Launch Zone is pretty cool but did you have to make it 6 X 5?! Please make a smaller version or at least make it sizable (which I believe was introduced with Android 3.0) so I can fit it on on of my screens.

Don't get me wrong, I love the TPT, I just would like to get this issues resolved....

Thanks!

I wanted to chime in about the cell standby issue as well.  I have a 32GB WiFi only model and cell standby is eating my battery... 23% today was used by cell standby.  Model 1838-25U.

I've temporarily set it to airplane mode, but this is not a long term fix.   The battery usage is equal to several hours of runtime so it's not a minor glitch.  Thanks for your help on this one!

Re: System update requests for ThinkPad Tablet

[ Edited ]

I won't reiterate the already mentioned points, they are all valid, I think. Here are my gripes:

  • The built-in exchange email app can only sync up to one month past emails: What!? One month is not nearly enough. Why won't you let me have all the emails on my table if I have the space?
  • There is no search function in the built-in exchange email app: This is even worse, although it somehow resonates with the first point. How am I supposed to find anything, manually by scrolling through hundreds of emails?
  • When lock-screen is turned completely off, the tablet doesn't ask for the PIN code and thus can't unlock the SIM card: Either make it so that you can "cancel" the PIN entry and still get to use the tablet, just without mobile service, and/or include a way to manually enter the PIN to unlock the SIM card. The way it is now, I either have to live with the terrible lag of the screen-unlock thingy or if I want to have it turned off, I have to frequently turn it on and off again just to unlock the SIM card. From what I experienced, the tablet frequently reboots without the user noticing if he/she doesn't use it for a while and this makes a renewed unlocking of the SIM card necessary.
  • The "lenovo launch zone" widget takes up way more space than is should have to: furthermore, I am afraid to remove the widget, because I don't see it in the widgets window and I don't know if I can get it back, once I remove it (but that may be just something I haven't discovered, yet).

That's all that comes to mind right now.

[edit]

  • The pre-installed is completely unituitive: In the beginning there are lots of empty shelves without ANY way inside the app to add books. You have to manually copy ebooks or pdfs into the folder "/mnt/sdcard/eBook/" and then they will show up. How is anyone supposed to know that? Normally ebook folders are at least called "eBooks". Why are there so few possible settings?

Re: System update requests for ThinkPad Tablet

Regarding the last point, I managed to remove and re-insert the Lenovo launch zone widget (like any other widget) on a test set at an exhibition. So removing this widget shouldn't be a problem.

Model: 18382BG

Build: ThinkPadTablet_A310_02_0024__0065_WE

- The 3g tablet without inserted SIM card and with deactivated airplane mode drains the battery as well (cell standby). I guess  Android phones behave the same, but it's unlikely that someone uses a phone without a SIM card.

- AceTrax and Connectify apps listed on the website are missing.

- When charging the tablet and trying to wake it from standby the screen constantly switches on and off until the battery has at least 20% charge

- Some options in the settings appear in french (on german language setting)

- When wiriting/drawing with the pen without lifting it the touchscreen sometimes reacts to the hand and the ink becomes distorted. There should be an option to turn of finger touch completely, so only the pen works. Like N-Trig on windows has 4 options:

* Auto (like on the ThinkpadTablet atm)

* Pen only

* Both pen and finger work simultanousley (not really needed)

* Finger only (not really needed)

Or there should be an API that apps can use to differentiate between finger / pen (like HTC Flyer).

- While laying on 6 fingers the touch works fine. As soon as you lay a 7th finger on the screen the 6 other go crazy.. Just test it. I know the tablet has only 6 touchpoints but i think the 7th just shouldn't be recognized

Sorry, bumped my feature request for pen only mode before checking out this post. Completely agree with all the items listed. I never use the app wheel, it is simply annoying, also losing double digits of battery to a non-existant 3g card. I would add fixing the Lenovo specific gmail bugs to this list.
