[gmail update] there is a problem parsing the package

Hello.

I get the error on the subject of this post when updating the gmail app through Lenovo's market. Has this update been built for a different API level? Is it, perhaps, an app for ICS?

Just curious, I cannot see what is wrong when upgrading this app.

Re: [gmail update] there is a problem parsing the package

This appears to be the same issue that occurred recently with the YouTube app. Lenovo fixed it then and, although this is a minor issue, it is a shame that they let it happen again. I hope they fix this soon and put the necessary protocols in place to prevent another recurrence...

Re: [gmail update] there is a problem parsing the package

It is not a big problem for me, as ICS will be released soon, but fixing it would be great. This app is currently one of the most unstable ones. The google account used by this app has not a lot of information on it, just receipts from App Shop with information on the software downloaded and a few welcome messages from services like ArcSync and Dropbox. However, cleaning data is usually required to get gmail app working again.

This is happening to me now too. Did Lenovo never fix this? I'm still on android 3.1 FWIW.

Gmail 4.0.5 is for ICS, not Honeycomb. As soon as you get the OTA 3 upgrade this issue will not be a problem.

[ Edited ]

Thanks, sobrado. I have a loose update hanging on my TPT, but at least this loose forum thread is now closed (assuming Lenovo said this officially somewhere else -- which did not come up in my search, btw . . . par for the Lenovo course).

Re: [gmail update] there is a problem parsing the package

Lenovo said nothing about this update up to my knowledge. I know it is an ICS issue for sure as had the same problems as you before. Once you upgrade to ICS this update can be applied without problems. By the way, the new Gmail app is much more stable (in fact, can we say Gmail app was usable on Honeycomb at all? I doubt it.)
