"Not connected to file transfer server" in the Check for Updates Menu

When I go into "About tablet", then "System Updates" and finally "Check for Updates", I get a screen that says, "Checking for new system updates." with "Connecting" underneath it. It trys for a while, then I get the message, "Not connected to file transfer server".  Apparently it is supposed to tell me if I am up to date and if not, offer the update.  What should I do? I would like to be ready for when ICS comes available.  I appreciate any help.

Re: "Not connected to file transfer server" in the Check for Updates Menu

Ok, some basic checks that may help:

  • are you behind a firewall? is there some rule that may be blocking access to Lenovo's storage servers?
  • are you behind a proxy server?
  • is your network configuration (gateway, name servers, netmask, so on) right?

At last, I would suggest you checking the availability of updates from another network.

Re: "Not connected to file transfer server" in the Check for Updates Menu

Well, he is from Vancouver so I would say his slate is in ROW. In any case region does not matter, he should receive a message saying if his tablet has --or not-- software updates available; a message saying that his device cannot connect to file transfer servers is something that should not happen.

Re: "Not connected to file transfer server" in the Check for Updates Menu

Thanks for your help. I will try another network.  My husband does have us behind a firewall! I will post once I try somewhere else and see if I get the message that I am up to date (or not).  I have no trouble downloading apps etc. from home.
