Install Vista on ThinkServer RS110 (6438-13G)

Hello,

we try to install Windows Vista Business on a ThinkServer RS110 (Type/Model: 6438-13G). The installation starts without problems and copies all files from the DVD. But after the server boots to end the installation, we see the progress bar of the bootprocess of Vista and after that we don't have an image on the screen. The HDD is still active (the LED flashes up periodically). Is it, because we use the screen and keyboard of a IBM HMC-Console? Would it help to connect an ordinary monitor?

What do we have to do?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Re: Install Vista on ThinkServer RS110 (6438-13G)

welcome to the forum!

it's possible that vista doesn't have a driver for the HMC.   after all, vista was never meant to be run on a server and is missing almost all features used by servers.

try it with an ordinary monitor and see if that helps.

Re: Install Vista on ThinkServer RS110 (6438-13G)

Thank you for your tip. I've connected an ordinary monitor to the server, but it did not help. I also installed the newest BIOS-Version, but this also did not help.

Do you have any other ideas?

Kind regards

Re: Install Vista on ThinkServer RS110 (6438-13G)

it's difficult to say.   vista isn't supported on the thinkserver and i still question if a certain component in the OS is missing and preventing the installation.   to rule the OS out, i would recommend trying server 2008 to see if it installs.   you can download a trial copy directly from microsoft.
