Hello All,
RD120 6447 running great, just out of the box. Putting all the updates on before I burn it in and when the final update process finished and I rebooted..... no joy. Black screen, no bios screen no beeps, no nothing. The CD drive light gives me a steady flash. Try to eject the CD to stick a bootable disk in, but drive won't come out.
Whatever was in that update killed something on this little puppy.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Randy

i've never seen a windows update kill a system at the core level where it won't boot into POST. this leads me to think something happened with either the power supply or the system planar when you rebooted. windows update, i'm sure, was purely a coincidence.
remove the power cord and hold down the power button to drain the capacitors in the power supply. then, pull the CMOS battery. wait about a minute. reinstall the battery (taking note of polarity) and the power cord. press the power button (if it doesn't already fire up on its own) and see if the system will start on its own.
if the system still won't boot past POST, call lenovo support. your power supply may have failed or something on the planar has been damaged.

After doing everything I could possibly think of, I read the manual. It suggested I use the secondary bios. Never heard of that. But, sure enough, changing the jumper and booting with the backup bios allowed me to update the primary bios with the utility from Lenovo's website and now it's just like new!
