I got an excellent deal on a TS100 6432 with Intel E7200 CPU, purchased as a fail-over host for our virtual server host. I didn't do my homework to find out that the Intel E7200 Core 2 Duo does NOT have Intel VT extensions, so it can't run our virtualization software. However, as far as I can tell, the Core 2 Duo E7600 *does* have VT, should fit in the socket, and the maintenance manual just says this model supports Xeons and Core 2 Duos ... is there any reason the motherboard or BIOS would not support VT extensions? I don't want to throw more money into it unless it will work ...

welcome to the forum!
VT is supported at the processor level in the ThinkServer line. all you need is a VT-capable processor.

Incidentally, the original E7200 Core 2 Duo is listed as running at 2.5 GHz, whereas the new E7600 I will substitute is capable of running at 3 GHz. I didn't see settings in the TS100 BIOS to fiddle with system clock speeds and am not dead-set on dialing it up, but if there is a proper (i.e. non-hacked) way to do this, I might as well have the extra speed.

clock speeds can be limited but there won't be any options for overclocking, if that's what you're intending to do.

I wasn't looking to overclock: just didn't know if I needed to take an overt action to "turn it up" from the 2.5 GHz the original processor (E7200) runs at, to the 3 GHz speed the new E7600 is capable of running at. As it turns out, the system is smart enough to handle the issue without intervention: I just swapped the chips and when I brought it back up, the BIOS reports it is running at the 3 GHz speed, no fretting or fussing required. Nice. (And, BIOS does report the virtual extensions are there, so I'm good to go.)
