TD100x hot swap drives

I need to add drives to my TD100x.  I currently had 3 drives in a RAID 5 configuration. 

Can I add individual drives without creating a raid volume? I want to use then for image backup of the RAID.

I have been using external USB 2 drives, but it takes 5 hours to image 300GB

yes, you may add drives outside of an array.   they would be considered JBOD (just a bunch of disks) and not part of any topography.

The machine is using IBM ServerRaid software and controller. How is the driev added and formatted? at the BIOS Level, when the machine boots, or inside Win 2003 using the ServeRaid manager? Where can I get hot swap mounting brackets, or do they come with original Lenovo drives?

you can format a non-configured drive in the LSI BIOS, LSI software, or windows disk management (diskmgmt.msc).

the hot-swap brackets come with lenovo drives.   however, you might be able to find the brackets online.   the brackets you need might match what was discussed in this thread.

I bought those plastic quick access brackets on Ebay, but they will not fit in a hot swap bay on a TD100x. Lenovo posted info on that.

They only fit in a TD100. They are about 1/8 inch too long.

I got the IBM ServeRaid software guide and it explains how to add a drive.
