I wanted to see what most of you all are doing for hard drives with the TS130.
Their enterprise drive (SKU 67Y2613 for example) is at least twice the cost of any comparable enteprise grade drive from western digital or seagate. I know Dell and every other manufacturer plays this game, and on top of it vendors are often out of stock on the lenovo specific SKU/drive.
My gut feeling is to just order an enterprise drive from western digital, but I would appreciate your feedback...

I would ask the same about memory. Kingston offers an ECC 4GB Module for $35, while the Lenovo 4GB SKU 67Y2607 is $210+

it's all about warranty coverage. if a lenovo part fails then a replacement will be there the next business day at no charge. conversely, going through the manufacturer can take a week or longer and incur shipping charges. when businesses require 99+% uptime, the costs can be easily amortized over a three-year equipment deployment period.
if you're an individual choosing to purchase non-lenovo parts then another option would be to purchase spare equipment to minimize downtime.
you might want to create a cost matrix and decide which option makes the most sense for you or your company.

drives are sourced from seagate, hitachi, and western digital.
