Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has had problems connecting HDMI cables to their D20 via an ATI FirePro 5700 cards.
I seem to not be able to get the cable to fit allthey way, and they keep popping out. It appears that the rails on either side of the video card back (i.e. where you connect DVI/HDMI cables to the back) seem to keep the cables fom going in all the way. I've been looking on the Inernet for HDMI connectors that might have longer connectors or thinner plugs, but have not been successful. I was thinking about using my Dremel to cut/sand the rails to create more room for the entire plug, or to sant some of teh casing of the plug to make it thinner, but both seem to be bad ideas, especially with regard to voiding warrenties.
Does anyone have any ideas.
Kind Regards,
AP

would you mind taking a photo and posting it? both tinypic.com and postimage.org offer free image hosting if you need it. just be sure to link any pics above 50k since some of us browse the forum using mobile devices.

Is your ATI FirePro 5700 from Lenovo, namely the option number 51J0510? If this is the case it has two Display Ports and one DVI, it doesn't have HDMI. Using the Lenovo Display Port to DVI adapter cable would be one option for you, another would be a Display Port to HDMI adapter.

andy - that was exactly what i wanted to see. i was curious if the correct cable was being plugged in to the DP socket or if it was a case of mistaken nomenclature. ![]()

Ok here are the images:

this is one where I tried tiliting the card and screwing it into place in order to make room for the HDMI connector.
The following two images are the card seated normally:

Thanks for the Help

Here is the number assigned to the card in the ordere documentation.
53Y8570 SBB ATIFPRV5700 512MBDP+DP+DVI
After hearing your explnation, that might explain why the ports do not look exactly look like HDMI ports.
Here are some pictures that I took:

After your post I began looking at Lenovo's website for more info, but have not found anything that was useful.
Do you know what exactly there ports are? How to connect to them? and If I can't connect an HDMI monitor to them (via ports other tan the DVI port) what are they for, especially considering when there seems to some kind of HiDef audio system associated with the card?
Kind Regards,
Aniket

that confirms what we suspected. you're trying to plug an HDMI cable into a DisplayPort socket. bad idea. ![]()
you either need an HDMI to DP adapter or an HDMI to DVI adapter. you could also buy an HDMI to DVI cable rather than just the adapter.

Great that explains it... ... and why the port looked different... I must have missed this difference when I was looking for the AMD pages for the Card.
Thanks for you help guys.
