Access Connections - An unsupported operation was attempted

When I go to Configure, Global Settings, I get the error "An unsupported operation was attempted" twice, and then the normal window pops up. There are 2 tabs at the top, default view opens to the first tab "Network", and the second tab is "Notification"

 

When I try to click on Notification, I get the error "An unsupported operation was attempted" twice. After clicking OK on each of the 2 messages (they appear one after the other, not simultaneously), I do not end up on the Notification tab. It stays on the Network tab.

 

I am trying to enable the tray icon for Access Connections. Why is it so difficult to do this and how do I fix this?
