Access connection and wireless security type

Hi,

is there (or will be) some option to determine which security type is used on current AP (like WEP/WPA/WPA2 and moreover AES/TKIP at WPA)? It takes a lot of time everytime i try to connect to some new AP or to some network, BFU friend just knows that the passphrase is for example "abc", but nothing about used security type.

In windows default wireless connection application (XP)'ll actually automaticaly search for the proper security type and you have to only write down the passphrase.

Thanks for reply or some tip to another 3rd party application, which'll detect these information from AP.
