Error: WHD20-RV7 - Thinkvantage toolbox [ Edited ]

Everytime the thinkvantage toolbox runs a hardware check, it keeps failing the "targeted read test", and gives me error WHD20-RV7...i have no idea what this is, what it means, or how to fix it...

is it fixable? can i do it myself? how would i go about doing it? thanks

Hello mate,

This means you've got bad sectors in your HDD. Try to run a checkdisk under windows with an attempt to recover bad sectors. Turn off your computer and retry to check with the Toolbox.

Thanks so much for the help! I started running chkdsk, and everything was great until it got to 40 percent complete, "verifying free space" at "stage 5 of 5"... It got through the first 13,000,000 of 38,600,000 free clusters very quickly, but at 13 million, it slowed down to only getting through between 1000 and 12000 clusters per minute on average... At this rate, it will take roughly 10 days to finish... What on earth is going on? Is this normal? I'm a law student...I can't be laptop-less for ten days!!! Do I need to buy a new one??? Thanks

Just have an eye on your HDD an backup as often as possible. Try to restore the bad sectors with chwckdisk even if it takes a bit of time it could be worth it.
