My Lenovo Thinkvantage toolbox warns and starts 'Scheduled Hardware Check' almost every 10/12 minutes unless I cancel the warning pop up. The pop waits for 30 sec and starts hardware check tests. When I see the settings of toolbox, I see I have set something monthly. Any idea why lenovo thinkvantage toolbox would attempt to conduct hardware checks so frequently, even though I have set something monthly?

Hi,
It might be possible, that you have an virus, or the Toolbox was corrupted.
In every case I would advice following (not ideal, but should do the trick):
- uninstall Toolbox
-reboot the machine
- install the latest Toolbox
- reboot the machine
This should reset all the configuration and settings and correct the Toolbox.
You can optionally also try just to reinstall Toolbox instead of the above procedure, just to try to keep the configuration.
Is there some note in the windows log?
Let me know, if this works or not.
Cheers

Hi Herik,
Thanks for your suggestions.
I followed the steps of uninstalling and reinstalling toolbox with rebooting of laptop in between, without any luck. The problem is still there.
When I see windows even log...I don't see anything unusual. I am not very good at reading those logs either. But, all of them are mostly informations and few warnings etc.
I have mcafee antivirus installed and also windows defender is there. Do you think still there could be virus?
One interesting observation though -
When I go to settings dialog of the toolbox, I see a warning message in red 'Scheduled Hardware Check in not correctly configured. Please review the following settings and save'. The frequncey set below is 21st of each month at 2:00:00 PM. Now -
When I hit save button, the above date changes!
When I uncheck 'Enable Scheduled Hardware Check' and hit save button, the checkbox automatically gets checked!

Hi,
you don't need to be good at reading the information from windows log. All you need to check is if there are any red signs and if yes, to which device they belong.
Maybe you can do a virus scan, if you have not done that already. With McAfee antivir, this situation should be ok.
Ok, now the part with the automatical checking is a good hint.
This looks really like something is locking Toolbox to modify this configuration.
Try following:
- disable McAfee
- start Toolbox
- try to uncheck this Schedule option and save it -> will it be finally saved?
These steps are more in the way of determinating, what might block the Toolbox from not accepting the changes in the configuration.
I assume, that you are an local admin and you are starting the Toolbox as and Administrator.
(The last part is kind of needed, as by Win7 you never know, when the OS requests admin rights for a change to the system)
Cheers

Hi Henrik,
Thanks for your replies again!
I turned off the below in McAfee program -
-turned off real time virus scanning
-turned off scheduled virus scanning
-turned off firewall
(there wasn't any one click 'disabling' of the antivirus)
Now, I started toolbox using the blue button on keyoboard.
Tried to uncheck 'Enable Scheduled Hardware Check' and hit save. However, after saving the the checkbox gets checked automatically again. Interestingly, the date also changes at the same time to another random date. If I click on either of save/reset button, the date keeps changing to another random date.
User Access Control setting is set to Default. When I run the toolbox, I run it as admin and the UAC doesn't come up with any warning (because of the default setting I guess).

Hi,
to be honest I have no other idea, then to set the system back with system restore, or reinstall the OS to get this situation fixed.
Of course there is also still the option to uninstall Toolbox, so that you will not have these HW checks all the time.
To me this looks, like corrupred OS, but not sure, why it is just not accepting the changes, that you do.
Anyway, it depends on you which option you will go. However, in case you will find some other application, that will also react this kind of strange, then I would really advice the backup all your files and reinstall the OS from scratch.

Hi Herik,
No Problem!
I have re-installed the OS and apparently the issue didn't seem to appear again. Not sure what went wrong with the earlier installation. All I can remember is, I had to resize the OS drive using partition software, so may be, that had introduced some sort of problem. Its all good now. Appreciate your interest to resolve the issue. Thanks.

I have the same issue with a new Lenovo X200, right out of the box. Haven't done anything to the laptop either.

Same exact issue with 3 T410s. They want to run the Hardware Check every 10-15 minutes. Right out of the box. This version of LTT appears to be broken.
