Previous Backup Lost

Hello,

I just had to reinstall my OS and take my laptop to factory level. I have been performing updates regularly, and after reinstalling the Rescue and Recovery, the previously backups appear to be missing. In fact, shortly after reinstalling the backup software the listed backups are no longer listed. I see dates on the external hard drive with large files, but the R&R interface no longer "sees" them. Is there anyway to recover those backups. It is strange the file from the initial backup, dated 2010, is available, but the the most recent backup 20 MAR 2012 is not. What and why would this have happened, and as above, can I recover it?

Re: Previous Backup Lost

You won't see the backups in Windows after you re-install the OS.

You can press the blue button during BIOS POST to enter the recovery environment, then you should be able to see the backups there.

Re: Previous Backup Lost

OK,

So not to be too indelicate. Got the laptop back in February from Lenovo after replacing mobo and nothing but the OS installed by them. All previous backups WERE present at that time. Then this week, I some IT genius who was having trouble trying to configure my NetGear firewall and I allowed him to use my laptop and wihtout premission had installed software which then disconnected me from access to my network.  - I am total idiot for networking stuff - Anyway, tried to use the restore and recovery thing so, in addition to my previous backup the machine wanted me to backup my profile. It started the process and as I was not at the laptop while it went through things, the screen was quiet - no activity no progress bar, etc. and I think still on the R&R GUI- so I was of the assumption that it must have been done. I restarted the machine then found that apparently the process had not completed, or had failed in some way because the machine was in no better shape than before I started the process. And I could not "Rejuvinate my system" as this would fail with errors, and I don't recall the comments. So I resorted to a factory restore. When I finished restoring the machine to factory, and installed the version 4.23 windows GUI, not the linux version which is in the factory version, I could "see" all the backups, but could address them. Then after a reboot, all those I could see disappeared. I can look at the hard drive. and I do see a database of backups with multiple sections listed under R&R, but all of it is in compressed format and not readable by me. Is there any way to force the software to relook up the database or "fix" the database itself. Funny how the original backup in 2010 was present, and the most recent partial profile was present, but none of the intervening incrementals. Additional ideas useful here. Thanks

Re: Previous Backup Lost

Hello, again Tried the backup under the boot screen. I cannot even see the 2° hard drive where the data is stored. any other ideas. Personally, no idea why I cannot retrieve my old data, what's the point if it's not accessible anyway? For me this is turning into an excercise in futility. Appreciate some help here.

thanks

Re: Previous Backup Lost

When you boot to the recovery OS by pressing the blue button at BIOS POST, choose the advanced mode.  Then when you go through the restore wizard, there will be an option to show all backups.

Re: Previous Backup Lost

Hi,

thanks for your reply, but cannot even see thr drive despite changing the BIOS, too. Is there a way to change command line switches?
