I went from vista /lenovo. I had 2 things. Windows and R&r recovery on the same drive. factory recovery.
I erased the drive to zeroes. Installed windows 7. The window 7 install Created the Master boot record, a single partition,
and updated the MBR to make the drive bootable. I later installed R&R, which added It's boot files to the c drive, and
Updated the MBR to put its entry in. Now i have a c drive with 2 bootables, 1 partition. Default is to boot into windows. If i hit PF11, I boot into R&R standalone software.
Then when I told r&r to place the backups on my 2nd hard drive (not local), create rescue media made my 2nd drive bootable also.
If you take a blank (zeroed) drive. You must add a MBR record. Then you must format it, which will create a partition.
Within that partition, NTFS index entries are created. The disk is Now usable as a Storage disk. If some software comes along later, like R&r. create rescue media, boot files AND the MBR is updated so the BIOS will know it is a bootable drive.
The following links on WD web site show these steps:
(1) Initialize disk
(2) partition and format disk

Your 1 tb looks fine from your screen shot.
GO into r&r, advanced view, set schedule and preferences, and Make sure your backup location is the 1tb. drive.
R&R wants to take a backup to a device you choose., the 1 TB. It wants to make it bootable, so it invokes the create rescue media software. This will copy the boot files needed, then will update the MBR. It creates a file called HDD.log in your Users, YOUR userid,APPDATA, local folder. Seems the error msg is showing up when it is getting ready to copy the boot files.
... Maybe a bug in R&R 4.3(32 bit). Try R&r 4.5(64 bit), requires microsoft MFC 2005. read the requirements page in previous posts. .
You running windows 7 32 bit or 64?

If push comes to shove, forget making the 1 tb bootable. Just create rescue media on a CD.
Take backups to the 1 tb. This is work around.
====
The 1 tb shows 118MB in use. You might want to do PROPERTIES on the 1 tb, TOOLS, and run error checking .
Please post a image of the folders on your 1 tb. Could be some leftovers there that need to be deleted.

Upgrade to r&r 4.5 . This May resolve your issue. Refer to my post nov 22,2011 concerning scheduled backup reverting to the C drive on r&r 4.5 .
To read the release notes for 4.5, Go to support.lenovo.com, drivers and software, Detect your machine type. On the right side, under Driver resource, Select Thinkvantage tools, then Rescure and recovery, then select R&r 4.50 to read the
release notes. This link Might work:
