Hello I have a new W520 with windows 7
I have tried many times to backup my files with an external USB with the RESCUE and RECOVERY
After many hours of backing up, I get the following message:
"The backup did not complete successfully"
Before the error message is says that it cannot backup my Emails file.
I re-downloaded the RESCUE and RECOVERY software and I get the same error message.
Thanks,
Joseph

Hi Joseph:
I am going to guess that because the problem you are having is specific to one file (your email file), the cause of the problem most likely does not lie with the Lenovo Rescue and Recovery program - the cause is probably something to do with the email program itself.
If you are using Microsoft Outlook as your email client, you might want to try scanning your email files (the .ost and .pst files where the mail is stored) using the SCANPST.EXE file that is part of Microsoft Outlook. This little application scans the email storage files for any possible problems and corrects any problems found. Just do a search on your root directory (the C: directory) for "SCANPST.EXE ", then put a shortcut to this little program on your desktop. To find where your email files are stored, search for "*.ost and *.pst", also on your root drive. There will probably be more than one OST and/or PST file, so, scan them all.
Lastly, if your email client is running at the time that the backup process takes place, this might cause problems. So, check to make sure that the email client is shut down when the backup runs.
Hope these suggestions help.
Michael

Dear Michael,
Many thanks for your prompt reply. I performed the backup
overnight and I made sure that no other programs where running. I made specially
attention that windows live mail was not running. In the morning I still get this
weird message without any other explanations.

“The backup did not complete successfully”
Many thanks for any other explanations,

please run "diskmgmt.msc" from the start menu. At the top will be a listing of each volume. Please post back with the capacity and free space of each volume as it is listed in Disk Management.

Additional info:
There are a couple of programs which also can use the *.pst- and *.ost - files. These programs also have to be closed (resp. to be killed in the task manager) before running R&R backup.
Skype, Cisco Webex f.ex. open and access these Outlook-files as long as they are active.

Hi,
I reinstalled THINKVANTAGE and I run the Rescue and Recovery software at night with the battery on and the problem was still not resolved:
RESCUE AND RECOVERY
This last backup operation did not
complete. The machine may have lost power during the backup. Would you like to
attempt this backup again?
The Microsoft backup worked well but not the ThinkVantage tool boxe, did it ever work for someone using an external USB?????

You should do the backup with an AC adapter connected.

I did have the AC adaptor on. This was not the problem and there was no power cut.
Thanks
