Hi all,
I try to find a solution but nothing proposed on other threads worked for me up until know.
Product: ThinkCentre M55e
Rescue and recovery 4.21 with latest patches
Operating system: Windows XP Pro - SP3
From the rr.log I see the following:
Sun Aug 15 12:07:58 2010 RescueRecovery: Loc=8 NoPrimary=0
Sun Aug 15 12:07:58 2010 RescueRecovery: WriteFile: Error 233
Sun Aug 15 12:07:59 2010 RescueRecovery: getProxyPipeName-Empty buffer returned from WTSQuerySessionInformation1.
Sun Aug 15 12:07:59 2010 RescueRecovery: No user found to run command 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\msgbox.exe', waiting...
Then it stays at 0% and the only way to close the application is to stop it from Task Manager. Then and I have to uninstall and reinstall r&r in order to make the application operational again.
Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi,
based on the short message, that you poste, it looked more like if the application was waiting for your interraction.
In case you see this scenario again, then try to press ALT+TAB if you will not see any small message, that behind the foreground windows.
NOTE: that the RnR messages don't need to be seen also in the Task bar, so please try it with ALT TAB if it changes anything.
There is the meggage in the log "Waiting..." which in 99% means waiting for user interraction.
Cheers

Thank you very much for your suggestion.
I tried your proposal but it does not make any difference. There is no way for me to provide any input, there isn´t any window provided. Please let me know if there is any other possible solution that I could try.
Thank you

Hi,
in this case please check the Windows event log, if you don't see any note in there.
Also it would be good, if you download the "DebugView" application from following link:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb
This smalle tool is tracking any activity on your system and might point you to the reason, why it's stopped.
However, this tool is capturing really everything, so the output will be huge ![]()
Let me know any update, that you have on this .
Cheers

Hi and thank you again for your information.
No relevant information in the OS event viewer so I tried the Debugviewer application.
I started Debugviewer just before lunching R&R, and I got the following

Until number 92 I see some information relevant to R&R, then I lunch the backup but do not receive any other information in the Debugviewer log. After number 92 is only information about symantec live update.
I got below the same message in the rr.log
Sun Aug 22 00:03:24 2010 RescueRecovery: Loc=8 NoPrimary=8
Sun Aug 22 00:03:25 2010 RescueRecovery: getProxyPipeName-Empty buffer returned from WTSQuerySessionInformation1.
Sun Aug 22 00:03:25 2010 RescueRecovery: No user found to run command 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Lenovo\msgbox.exe', waiting...
I do not get any help from the information above. Please have a look and let me know if this gives you any ideas what might be wrong in my RnR application. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling RnR several times but no luck.
Thanks,
gathan

Hi,
ok, now I see what is the problem.
Here is some explanation:
The RnR application tried to bring up some message, BUT this application is blocked from the correct functionality. To be correct, RnR tries to show you some message, byt it cannot do it.
So much for the issue description.
According to this log try to totally dissable the Firewall and also the Antivirus application, as these migth bloct RnR from working correctly.
Hmmm, as far as I know Symantec, this is more a bug, then a antivir, so in case you have the original installation files for Symantec, then uninstall this antivir, reboot the machine and try to start RnR again.
Let me know, if this would be possible to test.
Cheers

Hi,
I disabled the OS firewall and I also removed Symantec Endpoint Protection. RnR backup finished without any problems. Then I reinstalled SEP since this PC is part of a corporate network and backup was still working correctly. Probably the previous installation of SEP was damaged, but now problem is solved.
Thank you very much for the excellent support.
