Here's a possible clue that I haven't seen mentioned in this thread.
If I run 'ia -install' from a command prompt, it reports
Unable to load DLL 'inshper.dll': The specified module could not be found
And indeed, there is no such DLL on my system.
Could this be what causes the missing information?

I have a dual boot system, 2003 and XP,
I do not have this file in my windows XP-environment, neither under win2003.
With winXP system update does work, it does not under 2003
(except when running system installer in XP-compatible-mode.
As far as I can see the standard drivers for sound, network, wireless etc.
are compatible with 2003.

I'm also having "An error occurred while gathering user information" message on my new R61. The TVSU version is 3.14.0008 which seems to be the latest.
The log shows the problem is a missing file athttps://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccb
I've tried changing the URL a couple of times and succeeded with https://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccb
The "HelloLevel/8.05.10" string suggests that indeed there should be a file named "HelloLevel_8_05_10.xml"
Could that be the problem?

I am also getting this message on my brand new R61 (arrived today)... Or, rather, I WAS getting it... I just downloaded and installed systemupdate314-2008-5-15.exe from the ibm website... and after installing that, I now get a DIFFERENT error message. This time it is failing with "Searching for Updates: Exception Not Expected was encountered!" Any Thoughts?

Any progress on resolving the System Update issue I originally reported on 4-22-08? (None of the proposed solutions in this thread to date have worked and still getting the Internal error -2147483648 program abort )

I am writing to second adaml's post from 7/30/2008.
Clearly this xml file is not available on the server as it should be. I have the same results -- I get a 404 on https://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccb
This issue is affecting lots of customers. Someone at Lenovo please get this fixed!
