Thin Install not willing to install drivers for new X220's ?

[ Edited ]

We just received some new X220's and I updated the drivers with Update Retriever.

When I start Thin Install, he's working but then does a reboot and right after it does nothing and nothing has changed either. The log is weird as I cannot see why he does that reboot.

The last page of the log hereunder:

I think the error is related to a dialog box. When I run it manually a window popup appears: 'Notification of restart', even if in my command I set 'noreboot'.

EDIT: This is my command-line -> ThinInstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -noicon -includerebootpackages 1,3,4 -log "C:\Windows\Temp" -noreboot

Re: Thin Install not willing to install drivers for new X220's ?

Ok, I found a quick solution all by myself :smileywink:

The bloody Ericsson F5521gw wireless WAN driver was set with 'Forces reboot'. (reboot type1). I changed this to type 3 and all was good. It is running now. I hope this driver will get installed anyway.

Re: Thin Install not willing to install drivers for new X220's ?

Hello,

I am also getting same error while using thininstaller in sccm 2007.

When you says you change from 1 to 3, did you remove 1 from command line?

Be careful with your Thin Installer command line.  What you have ...

ThinInstaller.exe /CM -search A -action INSTALL -noicon -includerebootpackages 1,3,4 -log "C:\Windows\Temp" -noreboot

... tells Thin Installer to include packages that will automatically reboot (type 1) and automatically shut down (type 4).  If you include these and ThinInstaller detects one in the applicable list it will prompt with a warning dialog that the system will automatically reboot or shutdown.  The -noreboot option is only applicable to "requires a reboot" (type 3) packages because these do not automatically reboot and Thin Installer is tasked with performing the reboot at the end unless you specify -noreboot.   You can change the reboot types for individual packages in Update Retriever; however, it does not change the design of the package.  So if the package is designed to reboot it will.  In some cases they may only reboot if they detect a prior version of the driver being upgraded.  Since this is typically not the case in an OSD scenario you can often get away with changing the reboot type in UR.  You just have to test and see how it goes.
