ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service consuming too much CPU!

My X200 Tablet is often in an unusable stable for 10~20 minutes after a reboot or a wakeup from a sleep/hibernation state. I noticed it's mainly because CPU is busy with the ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service.

I noticed that although the CPU usage of "tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe" is often <10%, another process "System" is often taking >80% CPU when "tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe" is running. "System" CPU usage immediately comes down when "tvt_reg_monitor_svc.exe" is killed. Is it a kind of camouflage? Thanks!

I was not able to disabling the registry monitor service completely either. Although I can stop and disable it in the Services control panel, it will automatically come back to life after a reboot. I heard that it may be because some other lenovo services, such as the Fingerprint Server, Rescue & Recovery, may need the Registry monitor service.

Anyone know how can I continue to use RnR and the fingerprint service but keep the annoying Registry Monitor service disabled? I'd like to use the fingerprint reader for convenience, and use RnR for saving data too! (my laptop, half a year old, crashed once already, and RnR saved my data!) Or, how to make the Registry Monitor use less CPU?

BTW, my X200 tablet is running Windows XP SP3, and currently up-to-date using both lenovo's "ThinkVantage System Update" and microsoft's "Windows Update".

Thanks!

Re: ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service consuming too much CPU!

Hi,
this situation was fixed by one patch, so please try to install following patch, if this fixes your situation too:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-69109

Let me know, if this helps.

Cheers

Re: ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service

Hi itech!

This is in reply to yours on my TVT Registry Monitor Service posting.

I hope Herik's solution re the TVT Scheduler patch works.  I have a SL400 so it isn't for my system.  I did note, however, that in my Task Scheduler (do you have one?) TVT Reg Mon was set to run every 20 minutes.  I couldn't change this until I disabled TVT Reg Mon Svc, went to Task Scheduler, deleted the task, and then restarted.  TVT Reg Mon Svc restarted but Task scheduler did not reinstate the schedule, which helped a lot.

Good luck!

Re: ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service

Hi,

thanks for the post.

@itech,

can you check ,which option worked for you? Mine, or the one from "bookitty", which looks also really great and reasonable.

Cheers

Re: ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service

Hi bookitty,

In the Scheduled Task folder on my laptop, there is no TVT reg mon; although there two tasks related PC-Doctor. They shouldn't cause TVT reg mon to run, right?

Thanks!

Re: ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service

Hi Herik,

Installed the patch and tried several reboots. It doesn't seem to help though.

The webpage you referred me to seems to be for the TVT Scheduler, not Registry Monitor Service? I have disabled the "TVT Scheduler" in the Services control panel long time ago.

I'd like to know which program is restarting the Reg Mon automatically at reboot time even I manually disabled the Reg Mon. So I could try something accordingly.

Thanks!

Re: ThinkVantage Registry Monitor Service

Hi,
the scheduler update is the correct update.
This application is used by multiple application and in your case I assume it is Rescue and Recovery.

You can also do it quite simple:
- locate this file on your HDD, rename it and restart the machine
- System will not detect this file and will not use/start it.

Let me know if at least this helps out. In the past the patch always worked.
Have to check, what is going on.

Cheers
