ThinkVantage System Update error message [ Edited ]

Hi, I've got a problem while trying system update on my t40p:

Dont know what is wrong with you System Update setup but here are the usual suspects. Are you logged on as administrator? System Update is sensitive to permissions, which is why I dont understand why a startup icon is installed for every user. Also, even if you are an administrator, you can still try logging in as another user. System update is reliant on .Net 2 IIRC. Installing or reinstalling .Net 2 will sometimes fix whatever issue you are having. Try running ia.exe under C:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\egather and tell us what if it ends the run with an error message.

I rely on dotnet 2.0+ for my daily use and I run the tool with an administrator account

I have the same problem.  How did you solve it?

Clear the proxy information in Internet Explorer (Tools -> Internet Options -> Connections -> Lan Settings)  You probably have "Use automatic configuration..." checked.  Uncheck it, unless you really are using an autoconfig script.  If so, make sure the script specified is valid.  Since TVSU picks up its connection information from IE, an invalid entry here can be problematic.

I am nubie on this discussion board and have had this problem (System Update error) for over a year. Spent lots of time to no avial with the lenovo "experts live" support group in Boulder before they were downsized. While they bailed me out of a real disaster quickly & very competently & i love 'em, this problem had them completely flumaxed for months. I don't even want to think about how many times  reinstalled .net & TV System Update to try to fix update error with no luck.

Unchecking the proxy fixed it - end of story.
