Randomly Power Manager doesn't load correctly at system boot on my w520 (specs in signature below)
My system is localized in Italian language, so I'll try my best to translate.
I have PM 3.65 and PM 1.64 driver, manually updated and manually checked file version and they're there.
This is the sequence of what happens when it doesn't start correctly at boot:
1) The taskbar icon it's grayed like this:

2) Then a message appears on the screen:translation "Power Manager doesn't work. Lenovo works everyday to reach a better quality [...]To find an upgrade to solve this problem, click next[...]

3) I click next and it starts the search...

4) another message appears: There aren't upgrades to solve the problem

5) new window,
"Lenovo works everyday to reach a better driver and software quality. Unluckily there isn't a solution to this problem.
We'd like you to send a error warning to Microsoft to keep updated about this problem solution. Click next to report the problem

6) then this windows come up. "Thinkpad PM Background Monitor and tray battery gauge stopped working.
Windows: it's possible to search online for a solution"
I click search for a solution and close the software

7) searching for a solution

8) then this one shows up and I tell to search for a solution this time too:

This is what it says:

9) searching for a solution:

10) then the window close abruptly without any notice and PM stays greyed like that until the next reboot. No other communications/warning/windows.
It happens randomly but very often. Like one or two boots it works fine, then the third boot it doesn't work, then one or two times it works, then the next one it doesn't works.
Let me know if you need other.
Roberto.

Hi rc87,
We will start investigating this issue, can you please provide a crash dump.
Once the .reg file is applied, then the next time the crash occurs, a dmp file should be written to the "%LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps" folder.
01-10-2012 07:04 AM
Ok,
.reg applied. I'll update after next crash.

it has crashed again...
I'm sending the link to download the dumps to you via PM.
they are two crash dumps zipped, because it throws two error windows one after the other.
let me know

nice one! ![]()
EDIT: could it be an issue with daemon tools agent?
01-12-2012 12:30 PM
Yes, it is an incompatibility between Power Manager and software that emulates optical drives, such as daemon tools. We're working on a patch, but it might take a few weeks. We'll keep the forum posted when the patch is released. Thanks for your help to report the issue.

I can confirm that if I remove daemon tools from boot list (and removing its automount on boot), power manager stop crashing.
Thank you for taking care of the problem.
I'm not in a hurry for a solution, as now we know how to not cause the crashes.

Power Manager 3.66 will solve this problem. It will be available on lenovo website within 2 weeks. Contact me by private message if you want to get it now; I will send you a link to download it.
