Hi there,
I've got a problem with the system update on one of our customers thinkpads.
When I try to start it, the splash screen appears and the process suservice.exe is started, but afterwards nothing happens.
I followed some of the tipps I found in this forum (disabled UAC, checked the basic registry entries, and so on) but without any success.
The behaviour didn't change - system update shows the splash screen (if I click onto the splash the application stops responding, if I wait the splash screen disappears after about 30 seconds)
I also uninstalled the previous installed version of system update and installed the lastest version (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-73
It would be nice to get system update working again because the customer experiences a strange problem on his thinkpad - maybe connected to lenovo apps which are not up to date (programs start to minimize maximize at random). Uninstalling the lenovo toolbox solved this problem for now, but I would like to make sure that the system is up to date.

I have the exact same problem on a W510 Win7Pro-64 SP1. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling System Update & Toolbox, including cleaning up Registry and removing all traces of these on the hard drive.

Hello mate,
Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 with Service pack 1 or Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 is required for System Update to work Correctly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0 is installed on your system.

(except for v4, they all came installed with Win7Pro. v4 was installed through Windows Update).

I had the same problem, it turns out the System Update utility won't run from Remote Desktop. If you start it from the control panel on the local machine it runs fine.
The tip-off: googling "WTSQueryUserToken failed!" from the logs I found that that message has some relationship to running from Remote Desktop.

Thank you all for your help on this, it seems to be a problem with remote desktop.
After running it in XP SP2 Compatibility mode it works in remote desktop sessions too.

thank you for taking the time to edit the link to open in a new window, to a site that takes me to a site with a possible solution. In reading that 'solution', I see comments at that page, that state that solution might not have the desired result.
Any Chance Lenovo can provide a Solution to this issue that I also see occur on any Windows 7 64 bit system in my environment? I RDP to the system, and launch ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 freshly downloaded from:
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.p
I see the splash screen for a few seconds, then it disappears...
The only means to get ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 to run on the remote system I am working on, is to terminate my RDP session, and resort to a VNC or Logmein remote session to the remote system, and run ThinkVantage System Update 4.03 that way.
WHEN IS THIS GOING TO BE FIXED?
A great application... sad that it STILL will not run in a RDP session.

I have the same issue with Thinkvantage System Update 5 on the T500, WIndows 7 Pro 64bit SP1. Net Framework Version 4
I see the splash screen for a few seconds, then it disappears.
This is on the laptop itself - not remote access.
