X201 Access Connection "decoupled" from WIndows 7

I am running Windows 7 on my X201 Tablet. It seems the Access Connection (V5.62) is "disconnected" form the Windows 7 native network settings. I can modify the IP and DNS addresses in Access Connection, but the values will not be propagated to the system. I need to modify the IP settings directly from the PROPERTIES of the WIndows LOCAL AERA CONNECTION in teh Control Panel to have them take effect. Am I doing something incorrectly?
