HI all
just to make sure the W530 still handle firewirewire devices? I saw on the pdf specs that its called a mini DVi but does it handle 1934 stuff or iéééé? Its for a firewire soundcard for running on win XP 32. Thank you

It should handle Firewire. I've used a firewire camera on mine before. It has the same "mini DV" port that the W520 had, which is just a mini firewire port. If the sound card has a full sized firewire, you would need a firewire to mini DV cable.

Why buy a W530 if you're going to run 32 bit XP on it????

I have a W510, it has firewire too, but it does NOT work with my Echo Audiofire2.
The card is detected and installs fine, but when playing audio I get 1-2 secs of playback at most before everything turns noisy and then goes silent.
I got an expresscard firewire controller with a TI chipset to fix the problem and it works great.
XP can be better at audio streaming on some systems, due to lower DPC latency.

Hi thank you all for the answers.
Thanks fullmetal9099, It should work with a miniDV/4pin ![]()
But i will test iit before bying.
Alphaman, as Adda said, Xp can runs better for some music configuration, and I own a few hardware devices that needs to be controlled with XP. And there are a lots of old software gems on xp that arent distributed anymore, that you need to crack/patch because the firms dont exist anymore and then cant provide unlock/authorisations, even if you bought one.
Sometime the patchs are emulations too and dont works with seven...
And to be honnest the seven interface is not as fast as xp. Seven is trying to be beautifull and is a memor ypig but its just an opinion ![]()
Adda, yes Texas Inst Chips works fine with audio. I has a similar issue with a motu 828mk2 on a sony vaio but didnt wanted to bypass the motu with a firewire express card adapter, but now it works great with a thikpad T420.
**bleep** these W5** with the raid option, are ultimate station for music production, but which i7 CPU for XP 32? ![]()
Thanks a lot

I understand what you're saying but personally I've never had any problems with DAW, VSTs etc using W7.
I'd rather have the extra memory available for Pro Tools etc than be stuck to only <4GB with XP x86.
XP also sucks for using SSDs which would be a better addition than RAID0 for DAW.

If you use Windows XP on a W530 IIRC, the USB 3.0 will NOT work, and instead default to USB 2.0. That is by intel's design. also, XP 32 bit will only see up to 4GB of ram, and nvidia optimus won't work, locking you into the nvidia card(which doesn't have XP drivers yet), or the intel card. Also, trying x64 XP is even worse, as there may not be complete driver support. I believe lenovo has a few drivers for 64 bit xp, but I don't know how many.

I must be unlucky because there was a lots of cledex error switwhing on W7, and a lots of my cubase projects were crashing at the opening, because they were made with 32 bits stuffs. I use a lots of free stuff coded by amateurish geeks...must have something to do with stability. ![]()
Youre right for the memory, It's a problem... I use FX teleport, it allows you to make a cluster with 3 computers via ethernet, so you can reach 3x4GB+3xCPU on XP32 but it ads some latency if you play live instruments that requires a lots of ram like Kontakt, but for all other apps like playback, mastering, composition, the latency is not felt.

I knew for the usb3 issue but not the optimus XP issue. Does it works on XP32 Based W520? What a shame...
Then it should be stuck to 3 different screen view, 1 thinkpad monitor + 2X differents desktop on 2 DTV? (monitor+display port + VGA)...
If not maybe i should reconsider this and just buy a Raid bay for a T420.

Just a last question, i dont really get which processor should i buy for a W530 XP32 bit based, the 3720QM or the 3520M?
Thanks
