My 2nd hdd in the ultrabay has started to fail being detected, it has my Linux os on it and since it cannot detect it, grub fails and I cannot log in windows or linux. Sometimes it works, if I leave it, do battery pulls, try differentnpower options but I need a permanent fix, typing from my tablet at the moment.

Hi danReynolds, welcome to the forum,
as you haven't mentioned having tried the following I'll ask, have you removed the ultrabay adapter and the hdd from the adapter and then put everything back together again? It's possible that it could have worked loose and just needs re-seating.
Andy

I have not yet, as it came with it I also have never done it before, is there documentation on the removal/configuration process? I am sure it is not too difficult but I want to be very careful. I suppose that could justify why it sometimes seems to work, I will try it next. Any other recommendations and advice is welcome. Thanks all.

I'd like to elaborate, I get a 2102 detection error on HDD2 (my 2nd drive) in the ultrabay. Googling this people say the hard drive might have failed, but I have gotten the error, then recovered, and gotten it again the past couple days. I think it is merely detection not failure.

I removed the ultrabay adapter and hdd and reinserted it, this works and the machine boots properly. But if I move it too much or press on the ultrabay it causes the 2nd hdd to lose connection. Does this sound more like an adapter malfunction? I am not exactly sure how to approach the issue.
