I think your only option will be Lojack. I do not think Intel sells their anti-theft offering directly to consumers. Yes, you will need to pay for it. I thought it was pretty lame that you are basically limited to lojack. Let me know if I'm wrong someone.

The thing is, is it not just software?
So what's the point?
Surely if anyone stole your laptop they would have it wiped straightaway rendering the intel software useless.

It should be running on the BIOS level not OS

It is more than just the software.

It is both. There is a wikipedia link for AMT if you want more information.

I use Lojack for laptops premium, which takes advantage of Intel® Anti-Theft Technology
It works great.
"the premium edition ncludes a service guarantee that could pay you up to $1,000 if the company fails to either recover the laptop or successfully delete sensitive data. The premium edition also uses enhanced technology to geographically locate a stolen laptop with greater accuracy."
