Just replaced 1900x1200 panel - Brightness?

Hi,

 

My brand new W500 WUXGA suffered from a very dim panel and within a week was significantly darker on the far left side. Lenovo agreed to swap it out and mistakenly replaced it with a 1680x1050 LCD. I've noticed that this screen is significantly brighter and has uniform brightness across the panel.

 

Does the 1680x1050 panel use a different technology? Is the WUXGA screen has a known brightness issue?

 

Im considering not returning it and just sticking with the lower res screen and forgetting about the extra pixels. Can anyone help?
