Re: Max memory for W510

[ Edited ]

Can the W510 utilize all 16gb of ram or is there a bottleneck at the processor?

It looks like the Intel spec sheet for the i7920xm says it only supports 8gb ram max

Is that 8gb max ram per channel (2channel) or 8gb max total?

Re: Max memory for W510

Multiple people on this forum have indicated success at 16GB. The 8GB references appear to be old, and usually from Intel literature -- Lenovo supports 16GB on the w510.

Re: Max memory for W510

i think that is the spec for 2 banks, but W510 have 4 banks so that is 2 x 8 gigs for 16 gigs.

I can confirm that 16GB RAM works and works well :smileyhappy:

I don't doubt that it works with 16gb, I wanted to know if I could get the full benefit of the 16gb ram or if there was a bottleneck at the processor(not sure many people would really know unless they benchmark it). The specs I posted are from September 2009 and are specific to the i7-920XM Processor Extreme Edition  processor's capabilities.

Great, so it's 8GB per channel with 2channels making it 16gb...and that also makes sense because it has 21GB Bandwidth for memory.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate your help with this, I just bought the w510 last week and I have been trying to figure out if it truely supported 16gb and I  wasn't sure about what the "Max Memory Size 8GB" in the intel spec sheet was referring to.

Thanks again!
