Obviously UPS international shipping is even more confusing than the Lenovo's "estimated shipping date".
Just talked with UPS, according to them:
1. "DEPARTURE SCAN" doesn't really mean the shipment is departing from somewhere.
2. "THIS SHIPMENT IS WAREHOUSED UNTIL IT IS RELEASED BY CLEARING AGENCY" doesn't really mean the the shipment is physically "warehoused" in somewhere or "waiting for custom clearance".
3. The location such as "Louisville, KY, US" doesn't means the shipment is physically at "Louisville, KY, US".
It seems to me they just "scan" the shipment to entertain the people who are using the online tracking, and they can do the "scanning" from Louisville, KY, US even the shipment is still in Shanghai.
Anyway, he told me that my shipment (W700ds) is still waiting for the "custom clearing" somewhere BUT he assured me that I will get the shipment by the end of tomorrow. It's hard to believe even he speaks English without any Indian accent, LOL!
BTW, I ordered two Hewlett Packard PCs just before Christmas in December. These two PCs were shipped from Shanghai via Fed Express. All I can say is Fed Express tracking system is much simple, effective and efficient that makes you really wondering what exactly UPS is doing there on its international shipping tracking system.

UPDATE (01/13): Within an hour after talking with UPS, they've decided to give me a bunch of "IMPORT SCAN" inputs on the online tracking list, and they promised that I will receive the package before the end of tomorrow.
UPDATE (01/14): Just talked to UPS and it turns out that they "misloaded" the package, and they have tried to re-route the package. Amazingly I was told that this is the second time happened to this particular package. Obviously the UPS internal tracking screen tells you more information than what we are getting from the online tracking list:
UPDATE (01/15): Talked with UPS again this morning and found out that this Lenovo EXPEDITED package was in UPS Shanghai facility for 4 days (01/07 to 01/11), and in UPS main transit center in Louisville, Kentucky, for 3 days (01/11-15), from Kentucky to San Diego, California and the final delivery to the destination one day (01/15). Reason for the multiple idential scaning inputs (such as five of the "IMPORT SCAN") at the same location are basically due to "mishandling" (mis-sorting, mis-loading) of the package.

Good ending to the saga (nice once in a while, right). Laptop shipped on 1/13 and I'm posting this message from it right now - only 2 days all the way from Hong Kong to California. So far, I like it!
