The EliteBook 8470p only has Intel's integrated graphics and a 1.7 GHz CPU having a 35W TDP, and 8GB RAM at most, and it's beating your machine, which has SSDs in RAID0 plus discrete graphics and a 2.3 GHz CPU having a 45W TDP, and 16GB RAM (not to mention the additional 55 Watts TDP of your Quadro 2000M GPU).

I'd say that's pretty amazing for a machine that's so low-powered, especially compared to what the higher-end Ivy Bridge/Kepler laptops will have.

Anyway, very informative comparision. Thanks for showing it to us, huberth.

(Of course, the Z1 is using a Sandy Bridge CPU, and part of its price is that big, bright, gorgeous 27"  2560x1440 IPS display, but it is interesting that it's a desktop machine using a mobile graphics processor, a pre-Kepler generation Fermi-family GPU from Nvidia.)

Jimbo, you make a good point.

PCMark 7 is the benchmark which most closely approximates what I do on my system.

My next laptop should have a decent 15-17 inch screen, not too heavy, and give me an increase of at least 20% over the W520 (PCMark 7 score of 5,500 or more).

Perhaps the soon to be announced Lenovo W530 or the soon to be announced MacBook Pro will fit the bill. Let me know if you come across anything...
