I meant Im sooo happy I dont have an SSD in my W520.
I have an OCZ vertex in my gaming rig, but the compatability issues on the Lenovo scare me white, and the fact that they wear out with frequetly changing files. The laptop is what I use 10 hours day 7 days a week to earn money. I cant waste any time trying to fix BSOD, Long sleep wake times (510), having to spend hours changing bios settings, tune rapid boot, update SSD firmwares, and have the HD bricked as I use HW passwords (older crucials). The only SSD I havent seen issues with the W520 is the relatively slow and expensive Intel 320 series. I have yet to see a post which says any SSD model works 100% with the W520, and requires no changes, hacks, or tweaks to run. I hope at some point there will be. Also, SSDs are not good with small files, databases, rapidly changing files etc. (i modify hundreds of sorce code files every day, each generates thousands of tiny updated class files. I run 3 linux VMs. I have Oracle and MySQl running, and the Lighroom Database which gets modified every few seconds when touching up photos. I recon that would kill an SSD, but I have no way to know or find out (without shelling out about £600 and crossing fingers).

Hi Folks:
For what it's worth, I have a W520 with an 80 gig Intel mSATA chip and a conventional 500 gig hard drive. I've got the OS and the applications on the chip, and all the user files on the drive.
I use RapidBoot 1.12 and the computer works well, it is trouble-free. It boots and gets me to the desktop very quickly.

Lenovo says that the average Lenovo EE 2.0 PC boots in 28 seconds:

Is anyone achieving anywhere close to 28 seconds boot up time with the W520?

I think many people run problem free otherwise I would hear about it in my company. I recognize your frustration with Windows, W520, and the trouble they have caused you. I hope your holiday season brings better tidings.

I've had no issues with the 'bullet proof mSATA' drive I put in. I've used an SSD in my wife's laptop for over a year now with good success too. I was an early adopter of SSDs with my desktop. Out of the first 5 drives, 3 died. 2 within 30 days of purchase and 1 within the manufacturer's warranty period. The technology is maturing - but the speeds are worth an occasional bump in the road.

I timed my machine today - much to my surprise, 28 seconds exactly from a cold start. I started timing when I swiped my finger, and stopped timing when the usable desktop appeared.
W520, Windows 7 Pro, UEFI BIOS, GPT discs, an 80 gig Intel mSATA card for the OS and applications, and the standard Seagate mechanical drive for the documents.
The OS installation is totally standard (I would not know how to tweak it), with all the drivers supplied by Lenovo System Update. Plus the usual stuff - Microsoft Security Essentials, Adobe CS 5.5, and all the other things that start up when the computer starts up.
28 seconds is actually pretty fast.... before I timed it, had someone asked, I would have guessed it took about 15 seconds to start up.
