Updating sound card driver

Hello,  I'm using a stream capture software that is prompting me to choose "stereo mix" so that the video stream I'm trying to capture will have sound.

Looking at the sound recording options in Windows  "stereo mix" is not available to configure and the software is suggesting that I need to update the driver.

Device manager tells me my driver is up to date.

Am I missing something?  Anyone have a suggestion?  Thanks

Stereo Mix has been disabled on recent sound chipsets for... various reasons.

You'll have to use third-party software such as Virtual Audio Cable.

Thanks for the reply,   It looks like VAC is not free.   Is there a decent alternative available to download that is free ware?

I see now for the reason that Stereo Mix is not available.

Some computer mfg's have signed an aggrement with the recording industry not to include SM with the operating system.

Crazy.

I have been investigating Virtual Audio Streaming

This looks intuitive and includes Windows 7 compatibility.
