W500 Hibernate and Suspend re-awakes after 30 seconds

When I close the lid on my Thinkpad W500 (XP SP3 32b, 3GB, ATI Mobility FireGL V5700 Bios 3.12) while attached to power, the laptop appears to go into the proper sleep mode, but then wakes back up after about 30 seconds and repeats the cycle every few minutes.

 

If I unplug the machine from power and suspend or hibernate, everything works fine.

 

New BIOS, disabled Wake on LAN, latest power manager software from Lenovo.
