W500 - switches to 16-bit color depth after disconnecting LCD TV

Hi guys,

My W500 always changes the screen color depth to 16-bit when I select "Notebook only (factory default)" on Fn+F7 menu, after watching movies on LCD TV. It happens both on Display Port and VGA connector. I have set "separate displays" (no desktop cloning). I remember having the same issue with old T61p. How to prevent that from happening?

Do you have the latest video driver installed?

Hi,

The problem still persists. I have upgraded to the latest driver from W500 official download page, current driver version is 8.771.0.0 (date: 2010-08-25).

Hmmm ... BIOS updated? Was it like this previously? Also when connected to LCD TV ... Is it already 16bit ?

Hello,

When notebook is connected to TV, both screens are 32-bit. When I turn off the TV  and switch notebook to the "Notebook only (factory default)" it changes to 16-bit depth.
