I've got an out-of-the-box W510 with the same problem (i.e. sleeps fine but won't wake up properly, endless flashing lights cycle, etc.). I seem to have found a solution to the problem. After a few days of poking at various power mode settings, I've discovered that disabling "USB Selective Suspend" in the "Change Advanced Power Settings" menu for the current power plan solves the problem. Not sure what other problems it creates, but at least now my PC will sleep (even for many hours) and wake normally. Pretty lame that the lenovo support crew couldn't come up with a solution this simple after the long timeline of complaints, but I think this might be the fix everyone is looking for.

Ok... never mind. Turning off USB selective suspend made my W510 more likely to wake properly from sleep, but it doesn't work every time. Guess I'm stuck with a portable "desktop" until this gets worked out by lenovo support.

It would sure be nice if Lenovo could confirm that they are working on a solution.
I bought my W510 in may this year and apparently I bought the wrong machine. The computer is crippled when I cannot put it to sleep

I got my machine back from the tech department. They were not able to reproduce the problem. I've resorted to setting this machine to hibernate when I close the lid or fn+f4. That seems to work for me.

I've been able to fix my issue (so far) by updating to the latest nVidia Quadro FX880M driver (from Lenovo's site). I haven't had nay sleep issues for a month or more.

Hello world.
I have the same issues, however, with a T410.
Issues:
- Will not fully go to sleep/hibernate mode.
- Will not wake from this half-baked sleep/hibernate mode either.
- When going to sleep/hibernate the following happens:
- Screen will go black
- HDD will stop spinning
- Moon LED will light
- power button will blink (slow for sleep, fast for hibernate)
How do I know it's not sleeping/hibernating:
- Keyboard light can be toggled on/off
- Fan running
- Opening and closing DVD drive will cause it to spin
I believe I have tried most everything mentioned in this and other threads:
- Testing AC and battery only
- Testing in and out of Minidock
- Replacing battery
- Uninstalling power manager driver and power manager
- Reinstalling power manager driver and power manager
- Installing latest nVidia video driver
- Played with all kinds of energy saving features, especially the ones which could keep the system from going to sleep. Then set them all back the way they were, and when it was still working.
- Done all Windows updates
- Done all ThinkVantage updates
- Deactivated Qualcomm Gobi
I believe this all happened with the latest automated TV update. That one also installed a new BIOS. Not sure if this is really the cause, but what do I know.
My config:
- Model: T410, 25223FG
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit
- 4GB RAM (original)
- BIOS 6IET74WW (1.34)
- Video: nVidia NVS 3100M, driver 8.17.12.5738, 6-27-2010
One needs to go: The problem or the T410.
H E L P!!

My W510 (Model - 4318CTO; Windows 7 professional 64) a few weeks old! and I see same problem. During wakeup it is flashing all the lights approximately every 4 seconds. This continues forever. To break out of this cycle I have to press and hold the power button until it shuts down. I tried all possible troubleshooting I can think of such as updating drivers, BIOS, windows update, re-installing OS(factory default).
Initially, I did not notice this problem(because I always use to shut down) .
Update: This problem is resolved by Lenovo service(under warranty). I don’t know what exactly the failure was. The service summary - part ‘PLNR’ replaced. Now it is working great. Thanks to Lenovo service.

I have the same problem with my brand new w510. It seems if I'm connected to a wireless network and I try to put it to sleep or hibernate, the laptop will never successfully change power states. It will eventually blue-screen and after I boot it next, the Windows error report specifically states it blue-screened while trying to change power states.
I saw mention that some people have problems reproducing the problem for support; could be because they aren't connected to the support office's wireless network? Just a theory.
Anyway, it is driving me nuts too. I haven't contacted Lenovo yet; busy at work and xmas and all that stuff.
Model 4318CTO, Win7pro 64-bit. About the only thing off-spec is the aftermarket OCZ Vertex 2 SSD.
