W510 - My fan is running the whole time

I have a w510 that i think is a bit noisy. Fan is running all the time, even when i am browsing. I sent it to Lenovo Service Center, but they told me there was nothing to be done, because a I7 processors make so much heat and bla bla bla.....

Is there somebody who has been having this problem, and solved it with sucess ?

And what did you exactly do ?

And yes, i have tried tpFan control.

Would be nice with a few smart replies.

Are you running docked or undocked?

Re: W510 - My fan is running the whole time

What are the temperatures of the CPU? If the fan is spinning fast, it's most probable that the CPU is hot. Which, in turn, is likely due to some runaway process running the CPU at full power.

Re: W510 - My fan is running the whole time

Thanks for your attention.

I am running undocked. I have also tried different settings in the power manager. My cpu is set to automatic.

I have also  been cleaning the fan with compressed air, and nothing seems to help.

I see that some people in the forum does not have this problem, but others have.

Somebody tried to replace the thermal paste ?

Re: W510 - My fan is running the whole time

Try running HWMonitor:
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

See what it reports as the CPU and GPU temperature.

Re: W510 - My fan is running the whole time

My temperature on cpu is between 48-54 C, (4cores), and my gpu around 50-51 C.

Have been regulary checking with SIW.

Hi Bernhard

What's your W510 System Temperature if the power plan Maximum Battery Life is selected?

Have a nice day! :smileytongue::smileyhappy::smileyvery-happy:

The temps are pretty normal.  What fan RPM are you seeing?

Re: W510 - My fan is running the whole time

The only way I know to lower the fan noise any further is to make changes to the Power Manager profile and set the proc to Adaptive, and the fan to lower noise.  This is actually more annoying to some folks because it constantly cycles the fan on an off.

2800 rpm is pretty low and rather quite.  I can't get mine to go below 3300 while docked.
