W510 cannot wake up from sleep

The most recent change we made was to change the memory chip locations. Using the order described in

http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Optimizing-memory-in-W510-which-slots-to-use/t... we put the OEM memory in slots 0 & 1. We installed the Crucial memory in slots 2 & 3.

We formerly had OEM in 0 & 1 and Crucial in 2 & 3. Perhaps the order change allowed the wakeup sequence to complete.

The next step on our agenda is to upgrade to Windows7 enterprise and join the company domain.

We will see what we will see.

Sleep entered from idle with cover open.

Pressed start button: Blinking light syndrome. DVD light followed by mute light, start light, keyboard illumination light, and AC power adaptor light.

Oh woe is me.

I have done some testing and found that my sleepproblem does not exist when I am connected to Internet via the onboard GPRS/HSDPA.

When using LAN or Wireless connections the problem exits

Had a replacement motherboard today. But had a sleep lock with blinking lights directly after that.

On Windows XP and other systems, sleep problem seems to be frequently caused by bad video drivers.

Until now, there were no available FX Quadro driver upgrade for the W510.  But now there is one @ Nvidia site. (July 2010)

I've just installed it - and so far so good.   I'll report in if I get the blinking lights again.

Oh well.  Blinking lights again.  The new Nvidia driver has no effect.

I updated to latest nvidia driver and it helped a bit...

When computer is docked, the problem still exist.

When computer is undocked, with wireless (wifi) connection, sleep works sometimes

When computer is undocked, with lan connection, sleep works sometimes.

When computer is undocked, with GPRS/HDSPA connection, sleep works.

I tried my system without the ultrabay hdd with the newest bios and reseated and paired the ram properly (mushkin slots 0,1 with the lenovo elpida and lenovo samsung in 2,3 and no difference, still the blinking lights of death.  I will retry with different ram configurations, but system hasnt had any problems with the orthos ram stress test, so this is quite frustrating at this point to be wasting so much time troubleshooting the system myself...

This has been my fourth high end thinkpad i've owned, but I am wondering if the grass is greener for my next purchase... Clearly there are quite a few people with exactly the same problem, so how this issue hasn't been resolved yet is not encouraging.

The latest BIOS does not fix this issue. It's REALLY annoying.
