W510 vs T510 after heating problems with W510

I am returning a brand new W510 thinkpad because of extreme heat at the back left corner with just minimal # of windows running.  It also took 15 seconds to bring up Explore once I'd clicked on the icon, which is a long time.  And the keyboard was EXTREMELY clackity.  The full HD screen strained my eyes and I could seem to adjust it to lower resolution display without words and icons and such showing in almost cartoonish porportions.  So I am unsure what to replace it with.  I am doing 2d graphic work it creative suites and expecially liked the Hueypro pantone color correction built in and touch screen.  So my choices now are to replace with a NEW new W510 with an HD+ screen (1600 x 900) and hopefully a better keyboard and less heat.  Or go to a T510 with HD+ screen and no color corrections system or touch screen but hopefully less heat, etc.  Any suggestions anyone?

Re: W510 vs T510 after heating problems with W510

I've upgraded from the T to the W510.  Yes the w510 runs a bit hotter at the back, but remember the W is a workstation.  The T510 is a better laptop, the W510 is a powerhouse.

The keyboard seemed to be quieter and smoother than on the T510 I had.  As for the sceen-I love it. The colours are too hot, but nothing calibration dosn't fix.  Did you not try the medium setting for the text?  That gives you HD+ sized text.  I really love the screen.

The first thing you should always do is dump do a clean OS install and get rid of that Hitachi crap in there.  You can get Crucial SSD's for about £100 now.  As soon as I did a clean install the explorer problem went.

Not shure if you have a fulty unit or if you just find the heat too much, but I would stick with the W if you do graphics work.  That screen is better than many IPS pannels-sharp clear vibrant and bringht.  Depends, whats more important to you.

A great screen with the abblily to RAM up to 16GB or

A cooler laptop with a screen thats a little blue that can only take 8GB.

My advise is get a new W510.  Take the drive out, rebuild and see how you go.  Those FHD pannels are like gold dust at the moment.
